Lagos—Lagos State government has said it would soon complete the Apapa-Iganmu master plan to ensure further development of the communities.

The government, however, noted that contrary to critics accusing the government of neglecting the slums in its developmental drive, it never neglected any part of the state.

Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Tunji Bello, disclosed this while reacting to the allegation against the state government by some critics in the state, shortly after the monitoring of February, monthly sanitation exercise in Apapa-Iganmu Local Council Development Area, LCDA.

Bello, who was accompanied by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ganiyu Johnson, noted that the current administration had since inception been committed to urban renewal, especially the slums.

“The government will soon complete the Apapa-Iganmu master plan to ensure further development of the communities,” he said.

They stated that the state government in slum areas commenced housing and road construction projects.

Some of the slums in the state include: Makoko and Iwaya; Yaba and Badia; Apapa-Iganmu LCDA.

For instance in Badia, Bello said, “The Lagos State Government has commenced the rebuilding exercise of the community and we started with the housing project in Ilu-Eri.”
