A mother returned home to her apartment in New York to find two of her children stabbed to death in the bath and their nanny lying on the floor with inflicted stab wounds to her neck, police have revealed.
The nanny, Yoselyn Ortega, was found near a knife. She was hospitalised in critical condition and was in police custody, and authorities said she is suspected of killing two-year-old Leo and six-year-old Lucia.
The children’s father, CNBC digital media executive Kevin Krim, who had been away on a business trip, was met by police at the airport on his return and was given an escort to the hospital where his loved ones had gathered.
Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly revealed that the children’s mother, Marina Krim, had entered the dark apartment with her three-year-old and initially thought her other two children were out with the 50-year-old nanny.
“She enters her apartment, the apartment is dark, and there comes a time she goes looking for her children. She enters a bathroom and finds her six-year-old daughter and two-year-old son stabbed to death in the tub. On the floor of the bathroom is a nanny, who apparently has inflicted wounds in her throat, and she has been removed to St. Luke’s Hospital. She’s in critical but stable condition,” he said.
Police Commissioner Kelly said it was unclear how long the nanny had worked for the family and the police investigation was ongoing. No charges had been filed.
