JOHNSTON, S.C. (WRDW) — A man is facing charges accused in connection to a break-in and sexual assault on an elderly woman on Tuesday.
Deputies have arrested Edward Terell Chandler, 27, on criminal sexual conduct, including kidnapping and robbery, and burglary charges, according to an incident report from the Aiken County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies responded to a home off Lee Street in reference to a break-in when they found neighbors in the driveway who said the home was locked, according to an incident report.
The report states an officer opened the storm door and noticed there were a set of keys in the dead bolt on the storm door which are what the officer used to open the house door.
The responding officer entered the home and found the 82-year-old victim talking to dispatch on the phone wearing a tee shirt and partially tied with a black cable around her upper body. The woman also had a shirt that was taped around her neck, according to the incident report.
The woman told the officer she knew the man who abused her and said he told her something was wrong with his father and he didn't know what to do which is why she answered the door to him, the report states.
According to the incident report, the woman called 911 and handed Chandler the phone and that's when he forced his way into her home and forced her into the bedroom. The victim states he then raped her and made her perform oral sex on him.
The incident report states the woman told officer Chandler made her give him all her money, roughly $800, and told her to write a check for $1000 but she wrote one for $750 because that's all she had. The victim told officers the suspect told her he would kill her if she called the police.
Deputies arrested Chandler in the area nearby while on the way to assisting the woman. The victim was taken to Aiken Hospital to be treated, according to the report.
The Edgefield County Sheriff's Office is now working the case.
