Newt Gingrich Hits CNN Over Its ‘Selective Media Outrage’ Against Ted Nugent

Newt GingrichFormer House Speaker and current CNN “Crossfire” host Newt Gingrich was critical of his own network’s coverage of rocker Ted Nugent on Tuesday.

In an interview with Wolf Blitzer on “The Situation Room,” Gingrich was asked about Texas gubernatorial candidate Greg Abbott’s decision to campaign with Nugent. Blitzer argued that was an outrageous move in light of Nugent’s January interview where he called Obama a “subhuman mongrel.”

“Would you do that if you were running for office?” Blitzer asked.

“No, but I always love selective media outrage,” Gingrich responded, adding that there was no “accountability” factor for Democrats who have made racially-charged statements over the years.

Abbott & Nugent appeared together at a campaign event on Tuesday in Denton, Texas. According to the San Antonio Express-News, Nugent described Abbott as “the epitome of what our founding fathers wanted as a representative.” Abbott reciprocated by praising Nugent as a “fighter for freedom in this country.”

Texas state Sen. and gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis (D) called Abbott’s “embrace” of Nugent “an insult” to voters.

“If this is Greg Abbott’s idea of values, it’s repulsive,” she said in a statement, according to ABC News
