A South Carolina dog is being hailed a hero after owners say he alerted them that a babysitter was abusing their 7-month-old son.

The babysitter, Alexis Khan, 22, pleaded guilty to assault and battery in Charleston Count Court on Monday. She faces one to three years in prison for abusing the child, named Finn.

"About five months into her being our babysitter, we started to notice that our dog was very protective of our son when she would come in the door," Benjamin Jordan said. "He was very aggressive towards her and a few times we actually had to physically restrain our dog from going towards her."

Jordan says the behavior was very unusual for Killian, a black lab and German shepherd mix. "He is a very personable dog," Jordan told Fox and Friends. "He is an 80-pound lap dog. For him to show aggression towards anyone is a sign."

The couple decided to place an iPhone under the couch and let the phone record while they were at work, expecting to hear her possibly abusing the dog, according to court documents and officials.

They were horrified at what they heard.

"It started with cussing," Hope Jordan said to WCSC in Charleston. "Then you hear slap noises and his crying changes from a distress cry to a pain cry. I just wanted to reach through the audiotape, go back in time and just grab him up."

"To know that five months I had handed my child to a monster, not knowing what was going on in my house for that day," she said.
