SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A teenager running for mayor in a small U.S. city says he never intended to go through with a plot to blow up his school that landed him in juvenile detention for half a year. The 18-year-old Joshua Kyler Hoggan told The Associated Press in an email that he recognizes what he did was wrong. But he insists that he never had any explosives or intent to bomb the school.
Hoggan served six months in juvenile detention after pleading guilty in 2012 to possession of a weapon of mass destruction. He says he's rehabilitated and ready to lead the city of Roy in Utah.
He competes in Tuesday's primary against current Mayor Joe Ritchie and a councilman. Two of the three will advance to the general election.
