JNjokuIt was a successful night at the Nigerian Youth Merit Awards for Jason Njoku, CEO and Founder of iROKO Partners – the world’s largest online distributor of African movies and music. He was awarded the prestigious accolade for ‘Best Use of Social Media’, having faced tough competition from the likes of Linda Ikeji, Bella Naija, Not Just Ok and Gidi Traffic.

The red-carpet event, held at the Civic Centre in Lagos on Friday 30th November, played host to a wealth of notable young Nigerian movers and shakers, to celebrate 18 Nigerian young people who have distinguished themselves in various aspects of national life.

Njoku responds to the announcement of his award: “Thank you so much to the Nigerian Youth Merit Awards for presenting me with this accolade of Best Use of Social Media. There was some super-tough competition in my group and I commend my fellow nominees – they’re all doing big things in the social media world.

â€œThe future of Nigeria and indeed Africa is online, and it’s fantastic to see so many people looking into how it will be a part of their future, whether it’s for commerce, knowledge acquisition or entertainment. These are exciting times for online enterprise and social media in Nigeria and I’m thrilled to be a part of it”.

The Nigerian Youth Merit Awards, NYMA, is the grand finale of a highly topical National Youth Economic Summit with the theme “Positioning the youth for active participation in an emerging economy”.  The summit is to be hosted by President Goodluck Jonathan and Governor Babatunde Fashola, with others such as the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Minister of Trades and Investment, Dr. Olusegun Aganga and the Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, playing different roles as facilitators and mentors.

The National Youth Economic Summit will feature a job fair while resource speakers will make presentations on various topics. The event will simulate the Nigerian Economic Summit and will take place in a single hall with close to 1,000 participants from all sectors of the economy.

iROKO Partners is the world’s largest online distributor of African movies and music, delivering over 209,000,000 minutes of awesome content around the world every single month. Njoku presides over a company of 100+ staff in offices in Lagos, London and New York.
