On Sunday, January 18, 2015 The AquaVibes exclusively broke the sad news of the death of veteran Nollywood star, Muna Obiekwe after a failed battle with kidney failure.
Well, there are a thousand and one things you probably did not know about the Enugu based actor who was among the many who love to keep their personal lives away from the big screen and big mouths.
This is the major reason why the news of his death came as a rude shock to thousands of people including his colleagues in the industry.
Well, here we go, according to information gathered from AquaVibes ,

1. He was addicted to smoking and drinking despite doctor’s warnings
Some Nollywood sources confirmed that Obiekwe was a ‘chain smoker and heavy drinker’ despite warnings from the doctors due to his health condition.
“Everybody in the industry knows Muna drinks a lot; even when he’s shooting in the North, he has a way of finding alcohol,” said a source from the industry.
Late Oniekwe resorted to drinking after he lost his parents to a fatal accident some years back.

2. He loves his privacy
As earlier mentioned, the deceased actor was said to have kept his ailment away from colleagues with hope he would survive but he unfortunately kicked the bucket.

3. Some Nollywood stars rendered help to him before he died
Contrary to reports that his colleagues abandoned him, big screen names including Kanayo O Kanayo, Patience Ozokwor, Vera Kanu and Ejiro Okurame reached out to him before he died.
His producer, friend and godmother, Vera Kanu who posed as a mother figure to him said, “He was managing it on his own. As a matter of fact, he has been managing it for a while until Ejiro Okurame and I came on board to help.
“We were combining resources to help him but there was very little we could do to save him. We had to enlist the help of Patience Ozokwor and Kanayo O. Kanayo (KOK) at a point. They rendered the help they could until he died.”

4. He discovered his ailment long time ago.
Late Obiekwe discovered his kidney problem a long time ago but like most people, he thought he could manage it. He ignored the pain and continued working without paying much attention.
A close source said he only took his drugs and medication once in a while as ‘he never believed the ailment could lead to his death.

5. He was not a man given to worrying about things.
The deceased was not easily given to worrying which was one of the reasons he took to the bottles.

6. His full Name

Quite a handful of his fans never knew his full name was Munachimso, which literally means My God is with me. He believed so much in the significance of his name.

7. He was married with 2 children.
This might shock you to know but the deceased actor was said to be married with two kids.

8. He is the first cousin of Yul Edochie.
Muna is also the first cousin of Yul Edochie, that makes him a member of Pete Edochie’s family.

9. He was one of the three busiest actors in Nollywood
Another thing many people do not know about him again is that he was one of the three busiest actors in Nollywood.

10. Shortly before his death, Obiekwe summoned enough courage and contacted the AGN President
In as much as he really did not want to bug people with his condition, Obiekwe reportedly contacted the president of the Actor’s Guild of Nigeria, Ibinabo Fiberesima.
It would be recalled that the popular musician and music director, OJB Jezreel, had a kidney transplant in India with the help of his celebrity colleagues who donated generously. But in Muna’s case, there was a sad end, as the Internet went abuzz on Sunday, January 19, 2015 when news of his death surfaced online.
