Excerpts:
Let me commiserate with you on the loss of your case against the Kaduna State Governor. It appears to be one of the longest governorship election cases we’ve had in this country. Would that be right?
If I may use the right word. Rather than commiserating with me, I will say you should join in congratulating me. I’m glad you said it’s the longest case in the country. You guys in the media have been following the trend of events. We went through the tribunal where we presented 17 Local Governments. Kaduna State has 23 local governments. We presented seventeen official INEC results of the 23 Local Governments and we asked the tribunal to look into it, verify and find out if there is anything we submitted, which is not authentic and which is not in consonance with the normal electoral law, they should throw it out. But if at all the tribunal felt that each of the results of the 17 Local Governments out of the 23 were correct, then it should give whoever they feel as per those results.

In the process of verifications, the Tribunal came to identify additional three Local Governments, which made it 20 Local Governments out of the 23. Only one Local Government result was cancelled and that is Giwa Local Government. ANPP won those 20 Local Governments. As I’m talking to you today, the court from the lower tribunal to the Court of Appeal, none was courageous enough to look at one angle of these results. In other words, the results stand as they were. But typical and unfortunately what Nigeria has been witnessing in the judiciary, they came to the conclusion that on technicality, we were late in presenting our case by a few hours, not even a day.

In other words, it’s a scenario where you have been boggled by an armed robber, you were fortunate to have caught the armed robber, you called the police and the police testified that yes, he’s an armed robber, holding your own property, had given you thorough beating and raped your family and you went before the court. The court asked the policemen whether it was actually the armed robber. The police confirmed it was true, only for the judge to look at you straight in the eyes and say sorry, you didn’t bring this case on time; the armed robber is free to go and he should take solace and go. This is typical scenario of what happened today in Kaduna State. For us, it’s more grease to our elbow. The masses and the people of Kaduna State voted for us. Anybody in Kaduna can testify to that fact. I kept challenging in various segments of the media if anybody says there is one place where PDP won and he can prove it, let him come and say so, whether in your own area or in your own street; even in Governor Sambo’s street; the box where his family voted. I won that box by 85 percent.
