Probably the last one before he is sworn in, Nollywood actor, director and producer, Desmond Elliot, was recently spotted on the set of a new movie production.

The lawmaker-elect, who would be representing Surulere Constituency I at the Lagos State House of Assembly, was spotted on the movie set with Belinda Effah, Lekki Wives star, Kiki Omeili and Kelvin Ikeduba amongst other Nollywood acts.

Informations gathered showed that Elliot is directing the flick, which is been produced by Nollywood actress, Iyabo Ojo with assistance from Sadiq Adebayo.

It should be noted that the actor recently said in an interview with CCTV after his victories at the polls that he would be leaving acting to concentrate on making laws and effect change in the lives of Lagosians as well as entertainment personalities.

‘Tinubu conspired with judge to jail me’ – PDP Chieftain reveals

0 0
Read Time:2 Minute, 48 Second

Lagos State People’s Democratic Party leader, Chief Bode George, has accused the National leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu that he conspired with a judge to send him to prison.

George revealed this in a recent interview with Punch.

He said Tinubu apologised to him after he (George) made the matter public at the burial of their mutual friend, late Arisekola Alao, in Ibadan.

Admitting that his conviction was painful, George said it was somewhat a favour they did him after all, as it was a period of self-rediscovery.

“Initially, he thought I hated him so much and convolutedly conspired to use a judge to put me in prison. Whatever you sow, you will reap. The Supreme Court said the judgment was a conjecture which means it never existed. They did not know they were helping me to go and rediscover myself. Of course it was painful,” the former Chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) said.

He explained further, “We later met at the Adamasingba Stadium Ibadan, at the burial of my good friend, Alao Arisekola. The Governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi, who is a younger brother of mine, sprang up and said, ‘Why are you and Tinubu not greeting each other?’ and I said Bola is on a different planet from mine. Oba Otudeko was also there and he said, ‘today at the burial of our mutual friend, Arisekola, we should end our hostility’ and I told them that he was involved in the conspiracy to lock me up. They called Bola, he shook my hand and said he was sorry. It was in public. Since then, if we meet in public, we greet each other but our concepts of politics are different.”

Also commenting on his statement in a Vanguard interview in February 2015, that if Tinubu finds his way into national government, he would go on exile, George said his decision to go abroad is because he wants to spend more time with his family, not that he is afraid of the APC leader.

“There is nothing he can do to me. I am not afraid of him and he knows that but I am now 70 and most of my children are abroad. My little girl is also abroad. I will spend more time there doing my memoirs because if I am here, I will be dealing with too many things. The book will include my 16 years of politics in Lagos and my youthful experiences,” he said.

In October 2009, the Ikeja High Court presided over by Justice Joseph Oyewole found Bode George and five others guilty of the offences of inflation of contract, disobedience of lawful order and abuse of office.

Justice Oyewole sentenced them to two years each on seven counts and six months each on another 28 counts of the charges.

In his judgment, Oyewole held that, indeed, the defendants disobeyed the lawful order which set the limitation on prices of contract to be awarded by the NPA board and that there were traces that some contracts were split by the board led by Bode George.

The six defendants were arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) alleging financial impropriety of N84 billion, disobedience of lawful authority and abuse of offices.

Read Time:39 Second

A military facility in Plateau State reportedly witnessed a bomb blast at about 9:45 this morning, April 25.

It was gathered that the bomb exploded at the Nigerian Army’s 3rd Armoured Division barracks at Bassa Local Government Area of the state.

Casualty details are still sketchy, but witnesses and security sources have confirmed the incident. Some reports say several persons died in the attack.

Pulse recalls that an explosion that hit a terminal market in Jos, Plateau capital, in May 20, 2014 reportedly killed over 118 people.

In December same year, a twin blast rocked Jos, and at least 31 people were reported dead.

Another explosion hit a bus station, also in Jos, and it killed 13 and left 14 injured in February 2015, amongst others.

Story developing.

APC, PDP factions form alliance to produce Senate President

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 21 Second

It has emerged that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is planning to capitalise on the failure of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to reach a consensus on the zoning of key offices in the incoming administration.

Some APC members, had, in a crucial meeting in Abuja on Thursday, April 23, disagreed on the zoning of the Senate President seat to the North-Central and Deputy Senate President to the North-East, as recommended by the party’s National Working Committee.

Reports say the PDP factions in the two chambers of the National Assembly are forming an alliance with the aggrieved APC members to produce a speaker and a senate president different from candidates approved by the APC.

At the APC meeting, the office of the deputy speaker was reportedly zoned to the South-South.

A member of the alliance who spoke to Punch anonymously said the caucus will ensure that holders of the offices are not choices of the APC leaders.

“Although we are not disputing the fact that the APC should produce leaders of the National Assembly, we will ensure that those who will emerge are people we prefer, not the choices of the APC leaders.

“By doing that, we will snatch the control of the National Assembly from them, just as the APC controlled the House through Aminu Tambuwal,” the source said.

However, the APC National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, had in a statement earlier this week dismissed the reports of disagreement in the party over zoning of offices. He described the claims as ‘products of hyperactive rumour mills’.

Read Time:1 Minute, 22 Second

The man, who vowed to trek from Lagos to Abuja if General Muhammadu Buhari wins the March 28 Presidential election to celebrate his victory, has finally met the President-elect.

The Ibadan-based man, Suleiman Hashimu, met Buhari in Abuja on Friday, April 24, 2015.

Hashimu spent 18 days trekking from Lagos to Abuja.

He narrates his experience; "I made a promise because of the love I have for Mr. President that if Buhari should win the 2015 elections, I will trek from Lagos to Abuja which I have done. I thank God that I made a promise and I fulfilled the promise. I passed through Kwara and Niger states to Abuja. I was trekking from 6.00am to 6.00pm and anywhere I find myself when it is 6.00pm, I pass the night there.I spent 18 days from Lagos to Abuja.

“Once I found myself inside the bush by 6.00pm and I managed to continue the trek till 9.00pm to a nearby village. I made this promise two years ago. I am based in Ibadan and I started my journey from Lagos because Lagos is the most popular city in Nigeria and I started from Berger junction in Lagos. I am not bothered about what people think. It is a promise between me and my God. I don’t want anybody to believe me. I left Lagos because I made a promise. Right from Kwara state, I never walked alone for five kilometres. People always walk with me to the next village. I work with a construction company based in Ibadan.” he said.

Girl pays Pastor N4m to marry her

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 34 Second

The rate at which some girls fall in love on social media is disturbing.

According to Saturday Sun, Pastor Abel Benard Aniude fraudulently collected N4m from Ojiaku Chiamaka and promised to marry her.

In an interview with Saturday Sun, Pastor Aniude explains saying: “I am an Assistant Pastor with Triumphant Kings Assembly. I have been in ministry for five years now. I am jobless. I met Chiamaka on facebook in December, 2013. I promised to marry her. Then, she started sending money to my bank account in Enugu. I visited her at Ibadan twice and collected the sum of N1million from her. I have to send my wife away with my two kids from my house to Aba. When I told my wife that I wanted to marry a second wife but she refused, that prompted me to send her packing. I used part of the money Chiamaka was sending to buy a car and built a bungalow in my village at Nochele Ndeaboli in Aliri Local Government Area, Enugu State. I deceived her that I wanted to marry her on Christmas day, December 25, 2014. I also lied to her that I had a motor accident. I rescheduled it for February 14, 2015. I lied to her again that armed robbers attacked me. I rescheduled it for Easter period, April 4, 2015 before the police anti-kidnappers squad arrested my wife, my Pastor Sam Ezenagu before I was arrested."

The 25 years old lady he duped, claims she has given him more than N4m.

The pastor was arrested by police detectives on April 13 at No 42 Odudukoko street, Gariki Awku-nanaw, Enugu State.

Mr. Mohammed Adamu, the state Commissioner of Police confirmed the arrest to Saturday Sun, adding  that the Pastor and his younger brother, Tobias Aniude use facebook to promise innocent women marriage and eventually dupe them.

NIGERIA: Who Wins Imo State Governorship Election In 2015?

0 0
Read Time:5 Minute, 3 Second

On May 29, 2015, Douglas House in Imo State will play host to a baggage free brand new Governor. The fresh Governor will emerge from one of the two distinct groups in Imo State politics, made up of Fifteen [15] identified candidates. Nine [9] politicians out of the two identified groups can be as analogue or old political activists, the rest six [6] are digital or new political activists.

In the mix are politicians like, immediate past governor, Ikedi Ohakim, Senator Chris Anyanwu, Senator Ifeanyi Ararume, Senator Hope Uzodinma, Emmanuel Iheanacho, Professor Jude Njoku, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha. Others are, Martins Agbaso, Tony Ezenna, Festus Odimegwu, Ben Njemanze, Humphrey Anumudu, and so on. Ordinarily, it will be politically naive for anybody to write off any of the two sets of politicians identified here as pretender to Imo State governorship seat in 2015, because of lessons of our political history in Nigeria. OF THE TWO IDENTIFIED SETS OF POLITICIANS IN DISCOURSE HERE, THOSE WITH BAGGAGE WILL SURELY GET SHOCKER OF THEIR LIVES IF THEY STRAY INTO IMO STATE GOVERNORSHIP CONTEST.

In an ideal situation, one can pitch his tent with any of the two groups of acknowledged politicians and still marshal out sound argument in favour of the group. For the new breed of politicians, their arguments on why the old ones should give way are legion. First, is the case that older politicians cannot cope with the rigors of the work of executive governor of a State as a result of old age. Secondly, new breed politicians believe that older politicians lack the innovative power to take the State to the next level developmentally because of their conservative and obsolete approach to governance.

On the other hand, proponents of the older breeds are always of the view that experience which is an asset is the joker these set of politicians have and can be used to turn things around if voted into power. Proponents also believe that old politicians have no urgent needs to satisfy in short, medium and long run, to warrant meddling into the finances of the State at the expense of development. According to them, older politicians have finished training their wards in school, just as they have finished taken care of issues that may lead them into stealing government funds. Also, proponents believe that older political activists can boast of huge financial war chest to prosecute elections, and that is why they have succeeded in staging dramatic comeback to offices they left before in some instances.

In many instances where older politicians staged dramatic comeback to power after leaving offices, according to supporters of analogue politicians, were as a result of the factors enumerated in the preceding paragraph. Of note here is the political exploit of late Senator Evans Ewerem in Imo State. As we know, he was one time governor of Imo State and later became Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano State was voted out in 2003, but he staged a comeback to the office in 2011. In recent past, former governor of Kogi State, Prince Abubakar Audu, served as a governor in the administration of General Ibrahim Babangida, he too, staged a return to Luggard House in 1999 still as a governor. Of recent in Ekiti State is the return of Ayo Fayose as the governor elect of the State, on account of the governorship election he won.

Here in Imo State, critics may want to know why Senator Nzeribe has taken it upon himself to pontificate on who should govern the State in 2015. Should this question arise, it will be an interesting poser. In the last three [3] governorship elections in Imo State, I looked the other way when the governors were being installed by outsiders. In this very project of seeing that decent and straightforward politician takes over the mantle of leadership in Imo State, I will never look away again. I made genuine mistake in the past and kept quiet, this time around, it will be undemocratic, if not immoral and cowardice of me to keep quiet.

I know those politicians who will not rule Imo State in 2015. In-fact, we don’t want those that will run our economy down to file out either as pretenders or as contenders to the governorship seat in the State in 2015. Those whose agenda are to buy and fuel private jets, build intimidating Estates in choice places like, Ikoyi in Lagos State, and as well as in the heart of Federal Capital Territory[FCT], at the expense of the State will not get near Douglas House. Surely, Imo State will not fall on the hands of those who want to continue to own houses in strategic areas in the United States of America [USA], England, Dubai, Canada and so on and so forth. Also, those who purchased and own private Banks in tax haven countries abroad will not be allowed to govern Imo State come 2015. The dubious politicians maintaining fat foreign accounts in different hard currencies will not come near Douglas House in 2015.

What Imo State urgently requires today above any other thing, is a baggage free candidate that will win primary election, goes ahead to win the governorship election proper, and then provide good governance and leadership; irrespective of where he or she comes from. Senator Francis Arthur Nzeribe, is not just making wild statements, the evidence are there, when the time comes, we shall see. This time around, I and the other like minds [stakeholders] will not sit and watch Imo State looted. Money will not be an issue for stakeholders in the project of purging Douglas House of looters. Already, the stakeholders have come together and consultations are continuing. Purging Imo State government house of treasury looters is a task that must be done. Imo State is no longer for sell!!

Signed:

Senator [Chief] Arthur Nzeribe

“Haven of peace” Oguta, Imo State, Nigeria.

P. O. Box 170.

Five gunmen were reported to have attacked them, demanding for money on the spot. Unable to meet their request, Amitaye was allegedly dragged out of the Hilux van into the bush, leaving her driver behind, Nigerian Tribune reports.

After the kidnappers left, the driver raised an alarm and made contacts with the woman’s husband and other family members.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that her corpse was found in the bush. A spokesperson for the family said:

“Patricia has been sick, but she was getting better before this unfortunate incident. I am sure that her blood pressure rose from the shock and the manner in which she was dragged into the bush by the kidnappers. Her lifeless body was recovered after being abandoned by the kidnappers in the bush. She died in pains."

When Nigerian Tribune visited the home of the deceased on Friday, sympathizers were seen discussing in hush tones, while the deceased’s husband could hardly mutter a word as he was still in shock over the tragedy.
