The police high command has refuted recent media reports credited to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) which claimed that a report issued by the Force indicted the JTF on the Baga incident, saying it was not true and could not be true.

NHRC, had earlier stated that its finding, through police investigation and subsequent report revealed that there were lots of human rights abuses in Baga town, Borno State, where some innocent people were killed and molested by members of JTF.

But in a swift reaction through a press release signed by the Force Spokesperson, Frank Mba, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) described the report as false.

The statement read in part: "It is important to note that the Nigeria Police Force is a component of the JTF operating in Borno State and other parts of the country and cannot set out to discredit an outfit which it is part of.  The said report therefore did not emanate from the Nigeria Police Authority".

While pledging to uphold its professional ethics and respect for Human Rights, the Police implored members of the public and the Human Rights community to keep up their support for on-going efforts by Nigerian Security Forces at restoring a lasting peace and security in some troubled parts of the country.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Mohammed Abubakar commended all members of the Nigerian Security Forces for their relentless efforts at curbing terrorism and other vices in the country.
