Standard Chartered Nigeria Limited at the weekend introduced the ‘breeze’ digital banking application aimed at enhancing its customers’ banking experience in Nigeria.

It described ‘breeze’ as a mobile banking application designed to provide customers with a superior, convenient and personalised banking experience.

According to the financial institution, the application would eventually be developed into a “virtual branch”, where customers can place requests as well as apply for products and services. Its introduction into Nigeria followed successful launches by Standard Chartered in India, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Korea, China, Dubai and Pakistan.

This bank explained that the product was part of its global focus on digitalising and socialising personal banking as well as to extend customers’ digital lifestyle into banking.

Speaking during the inauguration ceremony in Lagos, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Bank Nigeria, Mrs. Bola Adesola, also said the bank would be introducing a series of digital services and solutions to the Nigerian market. This, according to her, would enable its clients and customers save substantial and valuable time in banking.

Adesola added: “Today’s consumers are tech-savvy and mobile. They want banking that not only meets their financial needs but also anticipates them.  We believe that technology has to be useful, intuitive and most importantly seamless.

“We believe that digitalisation goes beyond online and mobile banking services; we continue to transform our business and invest for long-term growth, with a focus on digital technologies that we believe will shape the future of banking.”

On her part, the bank’s Regional Head of Consumer Banking, West Africa, Carol Oyedeji, said the launch of the product showed that the digital era was in full swing.

“Today we are more connected, more mobile and more social than we ever were.  The launch of ‘breeze’ follows extensive research into the banking behavior of individuals and aims to provide customers with an easy, secure, and user-friendly banking channel,” she added.
