Jumia Partners MasterCard, Dell, Others, Marks Anniversary

 Jumia Nigeria has announced its partnership with MasterCard to use MasterCard's Internet Gateway Service to make credit card payments safer and easier for its customers.
The company, which marked its one year anniversary, said it was nearing exclusive partnerships with Dell, Intel and Nokia, among others, to increase customer satisfaction and experience.

A release made available to THISDAY by Co-founder Jumia Nigeria, Raphael Afaedor, explained that the company’s aim was to continually retain the trust of its customers and prospects alike.

He said: “The electronic way of doing business is still a new concept in Nigeria and we are constantly looking for channels to reach our customers to show them we care about bringing solutions to what should indeed be a relaxing and conducive experience.

“Additionally, the Company has almost concluded exclusive partnerships with Dell, Intel and Nokia, among others, to increase customer satisfaction and experience”.

Explaining the company’s start off, he said Jumia, which was launched in June 2012 as the largest ecommerce website in the country, currently serves almost a million customers; changing the way people shop in Nigeria.

He further noted that Jumia recently secured with its affiliated companies a further $35 million in funding from MILLICOM, which comes in addition to the recent N6 billion investments from J.P. Morgan and Summit Partners.

“The funding, which represents the largest investment in a Nigeria ecommerce startup, has allowed Jumia continue its rapid growth to serve even more customers across Nigeria. We also have plans to move to a new 90,000 sq ft warehouse in Lagos which will house 500 employees and create the largest ecommerce campus in West Africa,” he said.

Speaking also, co-founder Jumia, Mr. Tunde Kehinde, disclosed that the company has started a Community Social Responsibility (CSR) Campaign, tagged “delivering smiles” to support education, economic empowerment, and affordable healthcare programs in Nigeria.
“After this tremendous one year run, we want to say thank you to our employees, customers, partners and all Nigerians. Since our creation we have supported education programs to empower children and we want to use this anniversary to give back to society”, he said.

He also stated that Jumia will donate one book to a child in its partner schools, for every book bought on Jumia adding that Jumia will visit schools with the ‘1 Child 1 Book’ foundation and the CSR co-sponsor DHL to give out books to less privileged pupils.

According to him,  Jumia’s anniversary would be celebrated with a first anniversary e-commerce conference, various fashion events, special discounts, new partnerships, new changes to its website and the education campaign ‘delivering smiles’.
