The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) Wednesday described those asking President Goodluck Jonathan to seek a second term in office in 2015 as not doing both the president and the country any good.

In an interview with THISDAY, the spokesperson of the northern socio-cultural organisation, Anthony Sani, queried why Chief Edwin Clark, was in a hurry to see Jonathan contest in 2015, when the president’s performance in office should be the realistic yardstick for such agitation.

According to the ACF, such early call by Clark and others, when the president still had two more years to go, could unduly heat up the nation’s politics and distract the president, pointing out that the president had not even made up his mind whether to contest in 2015 or not. While noting that ACF does not believe it is right to start the politics of 2015 two years earlier, Sani said: “More so that President Jonathan told the nation during his last media chat that he used almost one and a half years of his tenure to analyse and articulate government policies in order to avoid past mistakes that happened with
dire consequences when policies were ill-conceived, and that work would begin in earnest by January 2013.” he said.

According to him, those calling on the president to seek another term in office should be aware of the warning from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) which promised to prosecute those who start political activities without waiting for its nod.

He further added that since the court was yet to decide whether the president could take more than two oaths of office and serve more than the maximum of eight years as president, those wanting him to seek another term should hold off for now.
