As some relative peace appears to be returning to the north-eastern part of Nigeria with the military operations in the area, gunmen suspected to be members of the Boko Haram have attacked Kwasakwasa village in Birnin Gwari local government area of Kaduna state, killing several people including two soldiers.
Confirming the attack to Channels Television, the Assistant Director Army Public Relations of Division One, Nigerian Army, Colonel Sani Kukasheka said that two soldiers, one of them a Captain lost their lives during a shootout between soldiers and the insurgents.
He added that a large number of the assailants were also killed, while some escaped with bullet wounds.
The attack which came four days after a similar one on three villages in the same northwest state of Kaduna reportedly occurred at about 6am, Tuesday, morning.
