Unknown gunmen saturday  kidnapped the wife and daughter of a Supreme Court Justice Bode Rhodes-Vivour.  Also abducted is the driver of the vehicle conveying them.

Sources said the trio were intercepted as they were about to enter Benin, Edo State capital.

Justice Rhodes-Vivour’s daughter is slated to get married in the next one week and arrangements for the wedding are said to be in top gear.

THISDAY learnt the kidnappers were yet to contact any member of the family by last night. Justice Rhodes-Vivour was formerly a judge in Lagos State before he rose to the Court of Appeal and later Supreme Court.

Kidnapping has assumed a new dimension in recent times. From the abduction of oil workers in the Niger Delta which used to be the stock in trade of militants in the restive delta, prominent Nigerians have now become the targets of kidnappers.

Prof. Kamene Okonjo, mother of Finance Minister Okonjo-Iweala, was kidnapped last December in her palace in Ogwashi-Ukwu in Delta State.

She was released after five days by her kidnappers allegedly after the payment of  a ransom.

Recently, the Chairman of Ejigbo Local Council Development Centre in Lagos, Mr. Kehinde Bamigbetan, was also kidnapped and later released.

The latest was the kidnap last week of elder statesman and former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Alhaji Shettima Monguno, after the Jumat service in his residence in Maiduguri, Borno State capital.

He was released a few days later. The kidnap was believed to have been carried out by Boko Haram members.
