NIGERIA: Ibadan Fire Disaster Victims Demand Compensation

Victims of last Monday’s tanker fire disaster in Omitowoju/Inalende areas of Ibadan, Oyo State are demanding compensation from the corporate owner of the tanker (Fatgbems Oil) which effect led to their massive losses.

According to one of the victims identified as Baba Laide, who lost N300,000 cash in the inferno aside other losses, said the victims were putting their heads together to hire a lawyer to fight for the payment of compensation to them in view of the huge losses they suffered.
Baba Laide, said: "Our losses were colossal. Some of us who were traders just stocked our shops few days to the inferno, while all of us lost all our hard earned property in the inferno. To some of us, we have been able to change clothes, courtesy of the assistance of neighbours.

"The fire disaster was a calamity to us and many may not survive the agony."
Meanwhile, a former Minister of Sports, Prof. Taoheed Adedoja and former Senate Leader, Senator Teslim Folarin, have expressed shock and sadness by tragic the fire incident.

The duo in separate statements made available to journalists in Ibadan, sympathised with the victims of the incident and urged them to take solace in the fact that no life was lost in the incident.
Adedoja said his thoughts and prayers were with everyone involved, especially the immediate victims of the incident.

"My thoughts and sincere sympathy are with the families and loved ones who lost their properties and sources of livelihood. And I wish swift recovery to the people who sustained injuries as a result of the inferno.

In his message of sympathy, Folarin urged the victims to see the incident as trial from God and prayed for their brave heart to overcome the trial.

"The incident, no doubt is a lamentable one but we are happy that no life was lost in the inferno, though property were perished and I pray God to comfort all those who lost their property in the inferno," he said.
