THE Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has reiterated its commitment to shut down all transport companies operating in the country which failed to comply with the minimum safety standards as set out in the Road Transport Safety Standardisation Scheme, RTSSS, strategy.

Besides, the Corps has concluded arrangements to send 40 of its staff to France for a training programme.

The Corps Marshal and Chief Executive of FRSC, Mr. Osita Chidoka, who made the vow while receiving a delegation of top management staff of Total Africa, led by its Vice President, Mr. Jonathan Molapo, in his office, said he was pained by the high rate of deaths caused by road crashes involving tankers, trailers and luxury buses in the country.

Chidoka lamented that the development continued to becloud the efforts of the Safety Corps in reducing road accidents in Nigeria.

He said:  “Road crashes involving tankers, trailers and long distance buses accounted for 40 per cent of deaths  on the  highways, caused by dangerous and reckless driving by tankers and trailers’ drivers.

“We will not only bark but bite. We will begin to take proactive steps and start prosecution of RTSSS. In the next few weeks we are going to begin series of actions by the FRSC to reverse that trend.”

In his speech, the Vice President, Total Africa, Mr. Jonathan Molapo, said they were in FRSC to seek areas of collaboration in order to reduce the number of deaths witnessed on Nigerian highways
