FEDERAL lawmakers from Rivers State, stakeholders and leaders of Peoples Democratic Party, Party, PDP, of the state chapter, yesterday, kicked against Monday’s sack of the state Executive Committee that is loyal to Governor Chibuike Amaechi.
The group, which said that the ruling will not stand the test of time, described the judgment “a travesty of justice and a broad day light judicial robbery,” vowing to exhaust all legal avenues to seek redress in the matter.
Similarly, the Rivers State Government has described as a miscarriage of justice, the ruling of the court, which sacked the Chief Godspower Ake led PDP in the state.
Addressing newsmen, yesterday, in Abuja, Chairman, Rivers State House of Representatives Caucus, Mr. Asita Honourable, stated that they were appealing the judgment of the Abuja High Court.
Flanked by other members of the House of Representatives from Rivers State, Andrew Uchendu and Sokonte Davies, other stakeholders, leaders, Commissioner of Agriculture, Emmanuel Chinda; Power Commissioner, Austin Wokocha; former commissioners and other chieftains of PDP, he wondered how a judge could have delivered judgment in favour of parties who did not stand nomination in the March 17, 2012 Rivers State congress that produced the executive committee, nor participated as delegates in the said congress.
He said they were in “shock” at the judgment, noting that despite the submission of the national secretariat of the party as to those duly elected into the Rivers State executive committee and persons inaugurated and accredited as bona fide delegates to the national convention, the court went ahead to give judgment in favour of “mere interlopers.”
“We are particularly worried that this group of impostors, who openly boasted of having the support of Oga and Madam at the top, did not even purchase nomination forms nor were they anywhere near the venue of PDP state congress on the date in question.”
He wondered how the court could turn down Independent National Electoral Commission’s report on the said congress and assume jurisdiction on the matter even when it involved a federal agency and on a matter that took place in Rivers State.
“This travesty of justice leaves much to be imagined and casts doubt in our minds over the much talked about reforms in the judiciary, now ably championed by the respected Chief Justice of Nigeria and the National Judicial Council, NJC.
“This injustice will surely not stand the test of time as the triumph of evil over good is usually temporary,” he said.
