Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Women Leader, Ambassador Dr. Kema Chikwe, have expressed support for the quest of Owerri Senatorial Zone to produce the next governor of Imo State.

The duo made this known during the launch of a group, the Owerri People’s Front (OPF) held in Owerri, the Imo State capital.

Speaking at the event, Ihedioha, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Special Duties, Mr. Ernest Ibejiako described the agenda of OPF as a noble one to ensure that Owerri Senatorial Zone produced the governor come 2015.

He urged the people of the zone to be selfless and not be deterred by materialism and pressure from the enemies of progress in the pursuit of the project, pointing out that the injustice against the zone would be a thing of the past should people support the cause of OPF in actualising the mandate.

On her part, Chikwe lamented that Imo State had been producing emergency governors since 1999 because of the inability of the people to do the right thing by supporting credible and qualified candidates because, according to her, the character of a governor was a combination of so many factors.

The former ambassador said for the state to move forward, Owerri Zone must produce the governor of the state in 2015 in the interest of justice and fair play. She, however, urged the people of the zone to see the issue as a serious business, which required the commitment of all and sundry.

Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman on the occasion, Chief Angus Onuegbu said it was possible for Owerri Zone to produce the governor if the people would take sincerity as their watchword, shun money influence and ensure that a single governorship candidate emerged from the zone.

Delivering his keynote address, the Chairman of OPF, Mr. Ebere Chukwuemeka, explained that OPF was a non-political and non-religious group, which stood to correct imbalance in the leadership of the state since 1999. He said the group was out to enlighten the people on why the zoning formula in the state must be respected.

While pledging that OPF would unite political leaders from the zone, Chukwuemeka therefore called on the other two zones to give Owerri Zone a chance and support them to produce the Imo State governor in 2015.
