Ogun State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has faulted reports of crisis in the National Working Committee, NWC, of the party over plans to conduct a fresh congress in the South-West and nominate a candidate for the vacant post of the National Secretary.
The proposed congress will lead to the replacement of the Chief Ishola Filani-led Caretaker Committee with a substantive Zonal Working Committee and the former National Secretary, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, who was sacked by the Federal High Court, Abuja, on January 11.
In a statement by the State Publicity Secretary, Waliu Oladidupo, the party described the reports of misgivings among the NWC members over a statement credited to the National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, that the party would hold fresh congress where new officers would be elected for the zone and the National Secretary nominated, as the “handiwork of members of the party sacked by the court recently.”
The party said: “It is public knowledge that all the actions taken by the national leadership of our great party under the leadership of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur were based on court orders and judgments.”
“Therefore, no one person or group of persons, no matter how powerful, can subvert or upturn valid court pronouncements until set aside or reversed by a superior court.”
“Is it not interesting that for those sacked it is subjudice to comply with subsisting declaratory court judgments as it relates to replacing them just because they have filed an appeal?
“Pray, when does an appeal and an application for a stay of execution filed after the act had been done supersedes valid court judgments?”
