Former President Olusegun ObasanjoThe desire of Anioma people  to produce the next governor of Delta State has received a boost in Abeokuta, Ogun State, from former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Receiving a delegation of Anioma traditional rulers and elders, led by the Asagba of Asaba, Prof. Chike Edozien, weekend, who visited him under the auspices of Anioma Congress, Obasanjo, said he was supporting Anioma people to produce the next governor because of his belief in equity and fairness.

He said: “I will be a subtle advocate for the Anioma cause because it is based on justice, fairness and equity.”

He advised the delegates to work hard and build alliances with their ethnic neighbours in order to achieve their objective.

Obasanjo enjoined Anioma people to harmonise their various candidates and present a marketable personality with proven track record of performance, so as to receive acceptance from others.

Earlier, Prof. Edozien thanked Chief Obasanjo for the warm reception accorded the entourage.

He told Obasanjo that the traditional rulers and elders of Delta North Senatorial District inaugurated the Anioma Congress as an umbrella organisation of all Anioma people with the objectives of bringing Anioma people together, actualising the creation of Anioma State and  producing the next governor of Delta State, if no state was created in Nigeria before the 2015 general elections.

On the entourage were the Obi of Owa, Obi of Issele-uku, Obi of Onicha Ugbo, Obi of Atuma and the Ogene of Ibedeni.
