Edo Youths ProtestingTHE commissioning of Obazogbe-Abudu Road by officials of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, was, Thursday, disrupted by youths from  Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State, alleging that the project was yet to be completed.

The protesting youths,  who carried placards with inscriptions, condemning NDDC for attempting to commission what they termed uncompleted job, alleged that the 24 km road project terminated at Abudu on the Benin-Asaba express Road and not Obagie, where the contractor stopped work.

Food and drinks meant for the ceremony were returned to Benin by NDDC officials just as the protesters waited until the already arranged canopies were dismantled.

One of the traditional rulers in the area, Enogie of Obazagbon, HRH Moses Omobude, alleged that a borehole and an electricity project being executed by NDDC in the past seven years were yet to be completed.

He said: “How can they be commissioning a road yet to be completed? The slabs on the gutter leading to our houses are yet to be covered.”

He urged NDDC to complete the road project to Abudu before commissioning.

He said: “The era of deceit is over. If we allow them to commission the uncompleted work, they might not come back to complete it.”

However, defending the commission, NDDC Director, Project Monitoring and Supervision, Mr. Okenwa Alexander, said the scope of the road project awarded had been completed.
