Governor Olusegun MimikoIn its determination to make Ondo State an industrial hub, the administration of Governor Olusegun Mimiko has taken delivery of a power plant turbine to be installed at Ore. The multi-million naira power plant turbine arrived the state at the weekend.

The Mimiko administration has been planning to turn Ore into an industrial nucleus for the state and the country’s foremost commercial nerve centre. The project is coming in the name of Ore Sunshine City. Ore is strategically located on the Lagos –Benin Expressway, linking the commercial city of Lagos and other parts of the South-west with the South-south and the South-east. The agenda of the state is to resuscitate the ailing industries by making Ore the focal point. Mimiko had submitted that making industries in the area viable depends on adequate provision of electricity which the turban is meant to provide.

“We are already partnering to build a power project by leveraging on the Escravos/Lagos gas line that passes through Ore. We are working to turn the place to a power plant. Ore is a geographical reality standing in the middle of the East and West. We are leveraging on that and building the Ore Sunshine city which is a new commercial hub for Ore.

“It is a 1,000 capacity trailer park with warehouses and housing facilities. It is a Public Private Partnership and work is presently ongoing on it,” Mimiko had said.

Taking delivery of the turbine on behalf of the governor, the Coordinator of the state’s Public Private Partnership initiative, Prof. Ige Bolodeoku, said the development is line with the fulfillment of  Mimiko’s dream of turning the state into an industrial haven.

Already, according to Bolodeoku, engineers are on site, while the installation of the turbine has started.

On completion of the installation, industries in the area will be able to run at cheaper cost, while constant supply of electricity will also ensure optimal production.

Local and foreign investors as well as captains of industries have started lobbying the state government for space at the Sunshine City, which take off had been delayed by the power plant turban.

The Dangote Group, Nigerian Breweries and a few other industrial concerns have been granted spaces to operate at the commercial hub, with many others still being considered.

Already, the state government has been operating a flourishing millennium farm for young graduates in the locality.

The farm has been able to cater for over six thousand unemployed graduates in the state.

The arrival of the power plant turban is expected to galvanise the output of operators at the farm even as the farm has been playing host to personnel from other states in the country interested in replicating same in their home states.
