NIGERIA: Magistrate chides lawyers for delaying cases

courtMagistrate Osodi Makanju of an Ikeja magistrate court sitting yesterday condemned the unnecessary adjournments sought by lawyers  in  bid  to delay pending criminal matters.

The magistrate who was reacting to an adjournment sought by a defence counsel in a matter instituted by a retired admiral, Samuel kolawole against Mr clement Ogbonna and his brother, Mr clement both of whom are currently  facing trial  for alleged conspiracy, stealing and unlawfully invasion of the compound of the admiral.

According to  Magistrate Makanju, “it is you lawyers  that are responsible for  delays in trials while you now blame judges after all, this matter  is not denovo. It is a part-heard matter.

The matter was later adjourned till March 17th for cross examination and for  admission of  all evidence at  the  scene.
