NIGERIA: Amosun’s wife gives succour to needy people

Wife of the Governor of Ogun State, Mrs. Olufunso AmosunMore than 2,000 needy pregnant women and aged people yesterday benefited from the UPLIFTing the Needy, Food Outreach programme, a project by the Wife of the Governor of Ogun State, Mrs. Olufunso Amosun to reduce poverty and better the lots of the aged and pregnant women across the state.

Speaking at the official flag-off ceremony of the programme at the Ijebu-Ode Local Government Secretariat, Ijebu-Ode, the Wife of the Governor said “the programme intends to create a food bank for the less privileged in the state with the aim of feeding them within their locality and save them from the stress of travelling to Abeokuta, the state capital. By this act, we are giving our needy people a good sense of belonging. We are also assuring them not to lose hope.”

Mrs. Amosun added that the aged and pregnant women deserved to be cared for and revered in the society, saying the UPLIFTing the Needy, Food Outreach programme would support families in Ogun State by ensuring that they eat balanced diet meals which would protect them from nutritional related diseases as well as help them maintain a  good healthy living.

Various food items like rice, beverages, groundnut oil, maternity kits, cash and among others were distributed to all the needy people in attendance.

The Wife of the Governor thanked all her partners, especially Mimee Noodles, May & Baker for their unflinching support and solidarity, calling on other corporate bodies and individuals to join hands with government to support the cause of the needy in the State as part of their social corporate responsibilities.

In his remarks, the Chairman, Ijebu–Ode Local Government, Mr. Oluwakemi Dada commended the efforts and initiative of Mrs. Amosun for her continuous efforts to boost the living standard of the less privileged, saying this would go a long way to alleviate poverty across the State.

He said the programme would reduce the gap between the poor and the rich and urged other well-meaning Nigerians to donate to the cause of humanity by emulating the good work of the Wife of the Governor to better the lots of the needy.

Speaking on behalf of the pregnant women, Mrs. Sadiat Adewale appreciated the Wife

of the Governor for her kind gesture, noting that the maternity kits and food items would support their expenses during and after delivery.
