NIGERIA: Obasanjo a dogged fighter – Uduaghan

Former Nigeria President Olusegun ObasanjoDELTA State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, has described former President Olusegun Obasanjo, as a nationalist, who stands and fights doggedly for whatever cause he believes in.

Uduaghan, who spoke, weekend, when he visited the former President at his Abeokuta residence, during a reception organised by the South-West Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, said “Chief Obasanjo is a man who stands by what he believes in and does not waver, no matter the situation. Once he believes in a course, he pursues it to a logical end.”

According to Uduaghan, the “former President is an international figure who believes so much in Nigeria and has worked for Nigeria’s development and unity.

At the grand reception held at the Alake Palace, Uduaghan noted that the former President had also ensured that Delta State was empowered to provide food not only for the people of the state but for Nigerians through the Obasanjo Farms which he partnered with the Delta State government to establish at Ogwashi-Uku.

He said “Because of our Delta beyond oil programme, we have a farm which is one of the biggest in West Africa and through the farm, President Obasanjo has ensured food security in West Africa,” the Governor said, reiterating that the Poultry at Ogwashi-Uku will be one of the biggest poultry farms in West Africa when fully operational.” he added.

….New book for launch

A new book entitled ‘The President Explains’ by former President Olusegun Obasanjo will be presented to the public tomorrow.

In a statement, Sunday, by the Public Presentation Committee, the event which holds at  Presidential Library, Abeokuta, at 10 a.m., will also be launched by top government officials and captains of industry.

The book, a version of the Obasanjo’s popular Radio Nigeria program- me with the same title, covers Obasanjo’s policies and programmes as president for eight years.

According to the statement,  business mogul, Chief Sunny Odogwu, will be the chairman of the ocassion while the Governor of Bauchi State, Malam Isa Yuguda, will serve as the Principal presenter, who will also be supported by all state governors. Keynote speaker is the Bayelsa state governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson, who will

be reflecting on the topic:Advancing the cause of national unity —The Obasanjo Legacy while Oba Obateru Akinruntan, the Olugbo of Ugboland will be the royal presenter.  Former Information Minister, Professor Dora Akunyili, will be the book reviewer.  Eminent businessmen Dr Mike Adenuga, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Chief Afe Babalola, Oba Otudeko, Alao Arisekola, Michael Ade Ojo, Dahiru Mangal, Femi Otedola, Chidi Anyaegbu, among others, are slated as launchers of the book.

”The book, The President Explains, is a unique compedium being the first time the policies and programmes of a government are in print and as narrated by the head of the government. It is a celebration of statesmanship and an essential part of our national history”, the statement noted.
