The affected masts which belonged to Airtel Telecom and Helios Towers were allegedly erected without title documents (allocation Papers).
They were also allegedly situated on a plot meant for a Petrol station.
It would be recalled that of the FCTA had on 7th Jan’2013 commenced the removal of Telecommunication Masts along the Airport Road at Kuchingoro in Kukwaba District.
Deputy Director in-charge of Aesthetics and Amenities, Arc. Adamu Abuja, while briefing newsmen said the owner of the petroleum station came to complain that the masts were erected on her plot. The complaint was backed up with relevant Title Documents.
Arc. Abuja stated that the Department wrote to the concerned masts owners to present their title documents or lease agreement.
“Even though Airtel responded, they did not have any of the required documents while Helios Towers did not respond at all,” he said.
They were served notices on the 20th March 2012 to relocate their masts within two weeks. The final removal notices were served on them on 23rd Nov’ 2012 which elapsed after seven days.
The Deputy Director stressed that more than enough time was given for them to present their documents or remove the masts on their own but non-adherence to any of these necessitated the enforcement move by the Development Control Department.
He therefore called on all Telecom Operators and their facility providers to always obtain necessary documents before commencement of work at any site to avoid such occurrences.
