It will be recalled that Obayuwana spent four days in Benin prison early last year after Justice Hobon imprisoned him over alleged contempt of court. Consequently, Obayuwana, who described the action of the judge as abuse of judicial powers for an alleged “contempt of court,” which did not take place facie curiae, regretted that NJC was yet to treat his petition despite all efforts to get the attention of the body to the unlawful treatment meted out to him as the then Attorney General of the state by Justice Hobon.
Obayuwana in the petition, explained: “I brought the attention of NJC to acts of forgery and doctoring of court records proceedings signed by the judge, which portrayed the existence of a charge against me, even before the contempt proceedings were in contemplation.
“My petition was received by NJC as confirmed by a copy sent to me from the letter by NJC directing Justice Hobon to react to my petition. Since then, there had been no further development to my knowledge.
“My Lord, it is almost one year since that petition was lodged with NJC. While I can appreciate that many issues of national importance may have commanded the attention of NJC, it nevertheless is my humble plea that I deserve justice.”
