The Civil Liberties Organisation has called for the immediate removal of the Minister of Works, Mr. Mike Onolememen, and his counterpart in the Niger Delta Ministry, Mr. Godsday Orubebe.
The CLO argued that the ministers had refused to perform their duties as far as the completion of the East-West Road was concerned and should be prosecuted for negligence.
It expressed regret that the road linking the South-South had been allowed to remain in a deplorable state for a long time.
Rivers State Chairman of the organisation, Mr. Steven Obodoekwe, who spoke with The PUNCH, on Sunday in Port Harcourt, lamented that the road had continued to claim more lives within the past one year.
Obodoekwe recalled how over 200 lives were lost in two separate tanker fires within a year with the latest leading to the death of two persons.
He added that the incidents would have been avoided if the Federal Government had shown enough commitment towards completing the project.
He also expressed the need for the National Assembly to probe the failure of successive governments to rehabilitate the road.
