The Peoples Democratic Party in the South-West has said it will not call for the adoption of any candidate for the party’s Board of Trustees chairmanship position.
It had earlier proposed the zoning of the position to the area.
The zonal Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Kayode Babade, in a statement made available to journalists on Saturday, said the clarification became necessary to clear misconceptions on the decision reached at the party’s joint meeting of the BOT from the South-West and the Zonal Working Committee that held last Wednesday.
The statement read, “Our appeal is simple, we are urging the national leadership of our great party to honour our zone with position of the BOT chairman.
“That is clearly different from saying we have adopted a particular candidate from the South-West and that we have thrown our weight behind the candidate.
“We, however, still maintain that the South-West would be highly honoured if it is considered in filling the vacant exalted office of the BOT chairman of our great party, the PDP.â€Â
The ZWC at a meeting on Wednesday urged the leadership of the party to elect the chairman of the BOT through consensus in the interest of peace, harmony and cohesion.
