President Goodluck Jonathan Monday visited Kogi State governor, Idris Wada, at the Cedarcrest Hospital, Abuja, where he was receiving treatment from injuries he sustained in the auto crash that claimed the life of his Aide-de -Camp (ADC), Ibrahim Idris.
Also, the state Deputy Governor, Mr. Yomi Awoniyi, who was on a foreign trip in the United Kingdom, yesterday returned to the country due to the crash.
The governor was involved in a road accident, while returning from the annual Igala Educational Summit at the Kogi State University, Anyigba.
Accompanied by few of his aides, the President was received at Garki II premises of the private hospital by the Minister of Health, Onyebuchi Chukwu, and the hospital’s Chief Medical Director (CMD), Felix Ogedengbe.
The President later went into the governor’s ward, where he spent quarter of an hour before he returned to the State House.
Clad in a cream coloured Ijaw attire with a red cap, the President refused to grant interview with journalists, who had anticipated he would grant them one.
However, Ogedengbe told journalists after the visit that the governor was recuperating and will be discharged from the hospital “in a few days.â€
He said the governor, “is already doing step-climbing. He is doing very well at the moment. You know it was a severe injury. We have continued to watch out for any other problem that he might have but at this stage, we have not seen any other problem at all.
“From the medical point of view, he is quite healthy and he should be ready to go back home in a couple of days. I can only at this stage tell you that he will be ready to go back home in a few days but I won’t be able to tell you specifically which day. He is not going to be in the hospital for weeks, he does not need to be here for weeks.â€
Wada’s Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Mr. Jacob Edi, also told journalists that, “the governor is hale and hearty and of a sound mind. He undergone surgery for the broken bone in his thigh and the surgery was successful. He has been receiving high profile visitors and apparently to cap it all, the visit of the President.â€
On the reported fear of the governor’s security in the hospital, Edi said: “From the eyes of men, the hospital could be small and there could be the fear of security, but security belongs to God. We believe that God will protect him.â€
Meanwhile, Awoniyi had to cut short his trip, following the auto crash involving Wada.
Awoniyi’s trip, according to sources at Lugard House, was to last 12 days covering the Christmas holiday in London, but he was compelled to return home following the crash.
The Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Deputy Governor, Micheal Abu, said Awoniyi, who returned to the country late on Sunday, headed straight to see his boss at the hospital, and was full of praises to God for spearing his life.
Awoniyi, he said, described the governor’s rate of recovery as perfect and speedily, stressing that Wada was in high spirit.
He appealed to the people of the state to be calm as the state government’s plan towards transforming the state was on course.
