The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido and his two sons, Mustapha and Aminu, over money laundering charges.

The three men were reportedly arrested by EFCC officials early on Tuesday, July 7, 2015.

They were subsequently flown to Kano at about 2:30 pm, according to Punch.

“The former Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido, and his two sons, Mustapha and Aminu, were arrested this morning by operatives of the commission,” a source said.

“They were actually arrested very early this morning, they were with us for hours before they were flown to Kano for possible arraignment on Wednesday (today). They left Abuja Airport around 2.30pm. It is most likely that they would be arraigned tomorrow (Wednesday), that I can tell you,” the source added.

Lamido and his sons have been accused of diverting billions of naira in government funds to unauthorized accounts for their own personal use.
