NIGERIA: Senator applauded as he casts vote for Senate President

Senator Buruji Kashamu, on, Tuesday, June 9, 2015, was applauded by his colleagues as he cast his vote during the elections to choose the Senate President.

Kashamu will be representing the Ogun East Senatorial District in the upper legislative house.

The Senator has recently been in the news due to extradition attempts made against him by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

The NDLEA has been seeking to arrest Kashamu and send him to the US to face drug charges.

The agency’s plans have however been put on hold as a Federal High Court in Lagos has overruled the proceedings against the Senator.

Kashamu was allegedly indicted for drug dealing in 1998, in a case which reportedly formed the basis for Netflix hit series, “Orange is the new black.”
