Over 20 armed vandals on Wednesday, May 13, reportedly stormed Igando area of Lagos to burst two pipelines.

It was reported that some of the vandals concentrated on bursting two underground pipelines while others were strategically positioned in the swamp to keep possible obstruction at bay.

Following a tip off, the policemen attached to the Inspector-General of Police Special Task Force on Anti-pipeline Vandalism were said to have reached the scene.

And upon sighting the force, the vandals reportedly engaged them in a gun battle.

An unconfirmed report said three policemen and nine vandals were killed in the clash, but a senior police officer who anonymously confirmed the incident to Vanguard was reluctant to comment on the casualty figure.

“I cannot tell whether anyone died. If any life was lost, the proof will be the dead body,” he said.
