The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Nyesom Wike the winner of the Rivers State governorship elections.

Wike won 1,029,102 votes to beat his main opponent, Dakuku Peterside of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who got 124,896 votes.

The PDP candidate was named Governor-elect on Monday, April 13, 2015, by the INEC Returning Officer for the state, Professor Faraday Oruwense.

However, widespread allegations of malpractice have trailed the elections in the state and international observers have called for the polls to be cancelled.
