Chaos erupted in Ekiti State on Tuesday, April 7, after supporters of Governor Ayo Fayose took to the streets to protest the impeachment plot against the governor.

One person, identified as Modupe Olaiya, was said to have been killed by a stray bullet during the protests.

Anti-impeachment demonstrations are said to have taken place at Ise, Emure, Efon Alaaye, Iworoko, Aisegba, Ikere, Ogotun Igbemo, Igede and Itawure in the state.

The protests have reportedly led to the closure of banks in the state while schools and shops were also affected.

The 19 All Progressives Congress lawmakers behind the plans to impeach Fayose have also been refused entry into the state.

“Governor   Fayose used his strategy of criminality and brigandage and we were ambushed by soldiers at the military checkpoint in Ita Iwure,” Majority Leader, Churchill Adedipe said.

“We were attacked, the soldiers at the military checkpoint stopped us and they delayed us deliberately for the thugs hired by Fayose to come and attack us there. We called our people who told us that thugs were already coming to attack us there and we turned back,” he added.

The lawmakers who returned to the state from self-exile after the APC’s win in the Presidential elections have said that there is no turning back on plans to impeach Fayose.

The governor however dismissed the plot as a joke saying that whoever wants to impeach him must first impeach God.
