Gombe commissioner in soup over contract scam

The Gombe State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Bulus Adamu Samuel, has been dragged before Justice M.G Umar of the Federal High Court in the state by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, forgery, contract scam, misappropriation of public funds, theft and abuse of office.

Samuel, was alleged to have inflated contracts for the electrification of 17.5 km route covering nine villages while he was the Chairman of Shongom local government council of the state.

According to the EFCC, the contract was awarded to Tican Engineering Company Nigeria Limited in the sum of N97, 640,000.

Samuel was said to have directed the payment of the sum of 73,230,000 to the company as  75 percent payment of mobilization fee.

The accused person pleaded not guilty to the charges and Justice Umar ordered that he be remanded in prison custody pending the formal application for his bail and adjourned the case to April 2, 2015 for trial to commence.
