An Abuja Senior Magistrates’ Court, Wuse Zone 2, on Thursday sentenced one Musa Kabiru of Angwan Dutse Alaji, FCT, to one-year and six months in prison for joint act and theft.

Senior Magistrate Folashade Oyekan convicted Kabiru after he (accused) pleaded guilty of stealing a motor cycle valued at N120,000.
“For the offence of joint act the accused is hereby sentenced to six months in prison.

“The accused is also sentenced to one year in prison for theft,’’ she said.
The magistrate, however, gave the accused an option to pay N10,000 fines on each sentence.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Cpl. Frances Tanko, told the court that one Suleiman Manko, a motor cyclist of same address with accused, lodged a report against the convict at the Wuse Police Station on Feb. 2.

He said that same date the complainant was on his commercial business as a motor cyclist the convict stopped him and asked him to take him somewhere.

He said that on their way the convict asked him to stop and the convict and two others, now at large, with knives beat the complainant till he fell off the motorcycle.
He said that the convict and the two others at large took the motor cycle away.

He said that during police investigation the motor cycle was recovered from the convict and he confessed that he had been in the act of forcefully snatching motorcycles since 2013.
The convict, who however pleaded for leniency, pledged not to repeat the crime.
