This man called Attahiru Jega will just mess up this country if we are not careful. He obviously has a hidden agenda. I was shocked when he cited only lack of security guarantee for the postponement of the 2015 general election. He did not tell Nigerians that virtually all the processes connected with the lection had not been perfected. As at Monday February 2, contracts for the printing of electoral materials were still being perfected. I am aware of this because one of INEC’s major printing contractors happens to be a friend of mine. The contractor told me that it would take them between two and four weeks to deliver the material if cash was released immediately. I have it on good authority that the contractors were eventually told to go and source for funds from banks and that INEC would provide re-payment guarantee.
As at February 8 when Jega called off the election, virtually all other processes including provision, distribution and collection of PVC’s, printing of ballot papers, distribution of verification machines and other non –sensitive materials, recruitment and training of ad hoc staff had not been perfected. For example, in Ikorodu LG of Lagos State, INEC official there were looking at the few card-readers in their office like some equipment from the moon. All of them had not been trained on how to use the equipment. In addition to the security issue, Jega should have been honest enough to tell Nigerians that his commission would need more weeks to perfect these processes in order to deliver a free and fair election. This man called Jega is obviously incompetent. I would have supported those calling for his sack, but six-weeks are too short a time for a new chairman to come in and perform well. Going forward, the six National Electoral Commissioners must henceforth give this Jaga Jaga man a close marking, else, he will jeopardise March 28.
