The Minister of State for Power, Hon. Mohammed Wakil has instructed the Yola Distribution Company to reconnect power to Biu, one of the biggest towns in Borno State, within the next forty-eight hours.
Wakil gave this instruction on Thursday after hours of closed door meeting with management of the company in his office in Abuja.
The minister's instruction was communicated to the media in a press statement sent on Friday to the e-mail of our correspondent by the Special Adviser on Media, Olawale Rasheed.
The minister told the management of Yola Distribution Company that the Emir of Biu had given assurance of safety for the personnel of the firm in Biu as well as commitment that the residents would fulfil their obligation once power was restored.
Wakil appreciated the company for operating despite the difficult circumstances in the North East and assured that the leaders and youth of Biu were resolved to create and sustain positive operating environment for the Disco.
"We appreciate your difficult operating environment. We accept there are challenges. But the issues are resolved. Your men are safe.
I have assurances of leaders of the community. Provide light and our people will pay their bills.
"We will support you in all manners possible. Be assured you and your staff are safe in Biu. All your requests will be looked into. In the meantime, you are to reconnect Biu within 48 hours", Wakil said.
Responding, the leader of the Yola Disco told the minister that the insurgency had made their operations very difficult. According to him, the situation is affecting their business returns, urging residents to pay their power bills as regularly as possible.
