The campaign organisation of the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Dr. Alex Otti, has denied involvement in the alleged shooting of a state lawmaker, Hon Darlington Nwokocha, describing it as a hoax.
Addressing a news conference in Umuahia yesterday, the Director of Special Duties of the campaign organization, Chief Nwaka Inem, said Otti and his team were taken aback by the insinuation that the shooting came from Otti’s camp.

Hon Nwokocha, who is a serving member of the Abia State House of Assembly and PDP candidate for Isiala Ngwa North/Isiala Ngwa South federal constituency was allegedly shot by gunmen attached to the  APGA candidate.

“We have no hand in that (alleged shooting). It is them shooting themselves,” he said, adding that those who “stage managed” the incident wanted to create a sense of panic among the people.

He also said the scenario of shooting was created to confuse the general public and make it appear as if Otti has become the aggressor whereas he has been the target of “orchestrated attacks by PDP.

“Despite these orchestrated attacks against our candidate and his resolve not to retaliate, it is very unfortunate that the PDP propaganda machine has now invested a wicked tale that APGA’s candidate, who has been the helpless victim of heir aggression, is the aggressor,” he lamented.

In an open letter to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) signed by Inem, the campaign organisation stated that it was alleged that Nwokocha was shot various times by unknown gunmen attached to the convoy of Otti.

“We want to state categorically here that Otti as a peace loving man, has never been linked in any way with violence all his life, so one wonders how on earth he will authorise the shooting of Nwokocha when they have nothing in contention at all level, be it politically or economically,” he said.
