Hausa, Fulani and Kanuri Christians in Katsina State under the aegis of Tarayyar Masihiyawan Nijeriya, have petitioned the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to intervene in the planned demolition of the Evangelical Church Wining All (ECWA), Matazu,   by the Katsina State Government.

The group in the petition dated January 12, a copy of which was made available to THISDAY in Kaduna at the weekend, maintained that the action of the state government was tantamount to persecution, repression, discrimination and marginalisation of indigenous Christians in the state.

The petition which was signed by counsel to ECWA, Mr. Yakubu S. Bawa of Bawa & Partners, stated further that tension was mounting in Matazu as Muslim youths in the area were threatening to demolish the church. The petition stated that the problem started when the church compound founded over 100 years ago, applied for the renewal of its Certificate of Occupancy (C of O), having exhausted the 99 years period.
