The surprise visit to Maiduguri on Thursday by President Goodluck Jonathan was good for the morale of the soldiers fighting the Boko Haram insurgency. It was also a worthy means of making the people of Borno State and other parts of the North-east, where Boko Haram has intensified a murderous terror campaign, feel a sense of belonging.
But the president must consolidate this commendable symbolic gesture with strategic measures to end the insurgency.
Nigeria must move to rally domestic, continental, and international actions to decisively tackle the Boko Haram menace.
