The non-indigenes in Rivers State have endorsed the re-election bid of President Goodluck Jonathan and the candidacy of Chief Nyeson Wike for the state governorship on the platform of the People Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming elections.
The people, under the aegis of Non-Indigenes Without Borders, made the endorsement yesterday at a solidarity rally held at the Rumueme Civic Centre, Port Harcourt.
They said they had made up their minds to cast their votes for the re-election of Jonathan and election of Wike as the governor of the state because they believe their interests would best be served in the PDP.
In their separate solidarity messages, the various tribes stated that they would not travel to their respective states during the elections, but remain in the state and vote
Leader of the group, Emeka Onowu, said their mandate was to ensure the victory of Jonathan on February 14, and Wike on February 28.
Onowu declared that the non-Rivers people in the state had obtained their Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
Speaking about Wike, the group’s leader stated that, the gubernatorial candidate’s antecedents as a two-time council chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state, and his relationship with the non-natives, made them to adopt him.
He said: “What you are seeing here today, is the manifestation of our believe in what you can do. We all are going to show you here our PVCs for the general election.
“We will not be intimidated or frustrated. As a council chairman, you empowered non-indigenes in the state. I assure you that every road will lead to the Liberation Stadium for your swearing in on May 29.”
Addressing the crowd, Wike, assured them that if voted into power, his administration would greatly recognise the relevance of non-Rivers people in the economic growth of the state.
He urged them to come out en mass and vote for the PDP, assuring that he would sign their denied certificate of occupancy (C-of-O) and build the burnt Rumuwoji Market (Mile Market), Diobu, Port Harcourt.
He promised: “If you vote for us, in the first six months in office, I will sign C-of-O of all the people that have purchased lands in the state. I will sign it in six months time.
“Vote for us; as you vote for us on February 28, we will start arranging for how the Rumuwoji Market will be rebuilt,” Wike assured.
