An aspirant to the House of Representatives, Ife federal constituency, Osun State, on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) , Chief John Fasogbon, has asked the leadership of the party to disqualify Mr. Albert Abiodun Adeogun who has been elected as the party’s candidate for the constituency.

In a petition dated January 7 and addressed to the National Chairman of the party, Adamu Muazu, Fasogbon alleged that Adeogun was a member of a secret cult, the Reformed Ogboni Fraternity.

He exhibited a copy of the membership certificate of Adeogun to prove that he (Adeogun) is a member of the fraternity.

In the petition, Fasogbon said: “By virtue of Part V, Paragraph 23(e) of the Electoral Guidelines for primary elections  2014 of the PDP on page 23, no member of a secret society shall be eligible to be nominated to contest the primary election of the party.”

He also cited the provisions of the 1999 constitution which he said barred elective office seekers from being members of secret cult.

According to Fasogbon, “Most importantly, section 66(1)(g) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended provides that ‘no person shall be qualified for election to the Senate or House of Representatives if he is a member of a secret society.”

He warned the PDP to stop Adeogun, otherwise, the party would have handed over the constituency to theAll Progressives Congress (APC).

In the event of the party failing to replace Adeogun, Fasogbon said he would not hesitate to file an action in court having exhausted the internal remedies available to members of the party.

He asked the party to withdraw Adeogun’s name and replace it with his own having come second in the primaries.

“I came second in the said primary election. As a loyal member of our great party, I owed our party a duty ‎to bring this to the notice of our party because this vital information is already an open secret in the hands of our opponent waiting to use it against our party when it will be too late to salvage the situation,” he said.

Fasogbon urged the PDP to act fast because the election would be keenly contested by PDP and the APC.

He pointed out that Ife federal constituency was the stronghold of the PDP in Osun State and that it would be a tragedy if the opportunity to win the constituency was allowed to slip by because of the non qualification of a single person.
