As Delta State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) strives to reconcile aggrieved party members over the fall-out of the governorship primary election in the state, the state Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, has said facts about the political undercurrents that followed the governorship primaries would emerge in due course.

Uduaghan, who spoke on Sunday in Asaba, the state capital, during a thanksgiving service for the emergence of Senator Ifeanyi Okowa as the PDP governorship  standard bearer  conducted  at the  St. Philips Anglican Church in Asaba stated that: “In due course, facts of what happened during and after the election will emerge.”

Uduaghan stressed the need for unity, cooperation and understanding among PDP members in the state, pointing out: “People should learn to forgive one another for whatever wrong was done as that was the only way for true reconciliation to ensure total victory in the forthcoming elections.”

He pointed out that there was a lot internal wrangling in the party resulting from the inability to win election and failure to secure one appointment or the other from government, stressing that there was need for cooperation in order to move the party forward.

Okowa, the governorship candidate of the PDP in the state, in his remarks, revealed how he cooperated with God to become the standard-bearer of the party in the state.

Okowa, who said his successful outing during the primary election of the party was divinely propelled, recalled how he positioned himself politically since 1998 to emerge as Uduaghan successor.

“In preparation for the return of the country to democratic rule in 1998, I pitched tent with the ruling party, PDP, where I coordinated the Grassroots Democratic Movement (GDM) for the former Governor of the state, Chief James Ibori campaign organisation.

“Owing to my unbroken service as a council chairman and later Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Water Resources Development and Health, before I was appointed by my boss, Uduaghan, as the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) in 2007, the position I held until 2011 when I picked the party’s ticket for the Delta North senatorial seat.

“Prior to this, I also headed Senator Patrick Osakwe’s campaign organisation before I succeeded him 2011. Today, I am not only being viewed in Abuja as someone who is an ardent loyalist of the party but as someone who has a clinical understanding of the state and its people,” he said.

While lauding the disposition of his fellow contestants during the primary election when he said “no victor, no vanquished,” Okowa vowed to run an all-inclusive government with them and bring alive the Delta Peoples Forum (DPF).

The presiding priest who anchored the sermon, described Okowa as a grassroots politician.

The Vicar of St. Philips Anglican  Church , the Asaba Diocese, Venerable Felix  Okonkwo,  prayed for peaceful conduct of the 2015 general election in the state and the country to ensure  that the country moves forward.
