Northern Politicians Close to Jonathan Not Doing Enough to Sell his Candidacy, Says Dingyadi

Zonal Coordinator of the Peoples Democratic Party Youth Frontier (PDPYF) North-west, Alhaji Yusuf Dingyadi, Friday accused some Northern politicians close to President Goodluck Jonathan, as lacking the political strategy, media management and genuine commitment towards marketing him to Nigerians.

Speaking at a one-day sensitisation seminar for the PDP Youth Awareness Volunteers on building party support tagged; "Our PDP, Our Chances and Their Supports for 2015" in Sokoto on Friday, Dingyadi described such politicians as a liability rather than asset to Jonathan.

Dingyadi, who was former Deputy Director of Media and Publicity for Obasanjo/Atiku Campaign Organisation in 2003, noted that ministers and politicians from the North-west who benefited immensely from this government, were not making real efforts to explain to the people why they should vote for Jonathan in 2015.

According to him, such politicians were not conversant with Jonathan's transformation agenda and commitment towards nation building and as such were not doing enough to make his achievement known to the generality of Nigerians.

"The truth of the matter is that, these politicians lack strategies and moral ground to convince people on the need to vote for Jonathan due to the fact that they abandoned the same people when they need them most.

"In fact, some of them while in power keep the people at arm's length, yet they want the same people to treat them with dignity and respect. It is a day of reckoning for them and the people they neglected in the past are watching and ready to teach them a lesson," Dingyadi said.

Dinyadi pointed out that Jonathan's achievements in the North- west was enough for the politicians to sell his candidacy, in spite of attacks from some elites in the region.

He emphasised that Jonathan had the interest of the country at heart and those elite clamouring for change now, were the people who failed the North in the past.

"These political elites living in Abuja, are only good in lamentation and complaints because they have lost touch with the reality at home which as a result make PDP and its candidates vulnerable to attack, abuse and political intimidation in the North.

"Jonathan has faith in these northerners close to him and seek their advice but they have ended up becoming a liability to his government," he stated.

He cautioned the All Progressive Congress to desist from politics of religion and using Islamic preachers, who are in the habit of portraying the PDP as anti-North.

Dingyadi to this end, called on the youth not to allow some disgruntled elements among the political class in the region to use religion to deceive them.

In a remark, the State Coordinator of the PDPYF Sokoto State, Mr. Suleiman Dan- Halima, urged PDPYF volunteers to redouble efforts to ensure the party's success at local, state and national levels during the forthcoming general election.

He said over 150 youths across the 23 local government areas of the state, who were registered as volunteers attended this seminar while another batch of 500 volunteers would attend the second seminar by the end of this month.
