The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Cross River State, Dr. Okey Ezeani, has cautioned the All Progressive Congress (APC) against making unsubstantiated allegations against his person.
The party had alleged that Ezeani was a card-carrying member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Ezeani who stated this in reaction to demands made recently that he be redeployed from the state because of what the party described as his antecedents, said the demand credited to the South-south Chairman of the APC, Hillaird Eta, is false.
Speaking on Tuesday in Calabar on the issue, Ezeani said, “The accusation is a fallacy. They do not even know who I am. That information is wrong and we have contacted Hilliard Eta to retract that accusation. The media must cross-check information before going to the press.”
The REC stated that he would work with the staff of the INEC in state, as a team, to ensure the success of the commission towards the conduct of the 2015 elections.
Speaking in the same line with Ezeani, his predecessor, Mr. Mike Igini, who has been redeployed to Edo State, said from the comments made against the new REC, it was obvious the APC chieftain does not know him.
Igini said, in value and quality, Ezeani is one of the most qualified REC to have been redeployed to the state.
Expressing his happiness for handing over to Ezeani whom he described as capable of handling the task of conducting elections in the state, Igini said, “Few days back when I heard some idle talks, I knew the accusers did not know him. I would have been sad if it was not Ezeani that took over from me. He is the most qualified in terms of value and quality. For the records, Ezeani is from Anambra State and only served as REC in Ebonyi State,”
Igini said Ezeani was recommend to work as REC in Nigeria based on his over 30 years working experience as a public servant in Washington DC, United States.
