Fifteen political parties under the aegis of Ebonyi Coalition of Political Parties (ERPP) have adopted the governorship standard-bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state, Mr. Dave Umahi, as their sole candidate for the 2015 governorship election.

The adoption came just as various candidates of the ruling PDP in the state have unanimously pledged their unalloyed support to ensure the victory of the ruling party’s candidate in the election.

The group noted in a statement signed by the chairmen and secretaries of the political parties that they have decided to show their solidarity to Umahi because of his relentless efforts to change the political trend of imposition in the state.

The 15 parties include: Mega Progressive Party, African Peoples Alliance, Democratic Peoples Movement, Accord Party, Social Democratic Party, All Congress Party of Nigeria, Democratic Peoples Party, National Reformation Party, Liberal Democratic Party of Nigeria, African Democratic Congress.
Others include: United Democratic Party, New Democratic, African Alliance, Hope Democratic Party and the Peoples Democratic Party.

The statement which was read by the Chairman of the United Democratic Party, Dr. Constant Edward, noted with dismay that the state has been passing through “stages of chaotic hotchpotch of political imposition with immunity” but Umahi’s emergence has brought hope for “political freedom.”

“It is based on this uncommon political breakthrough that we are standing on, to assure Umahi that we are strongly in support of his candidacy. We have accordingly, collectively and individually resolved to collapse our various political units into PDP just for him.

“We have looked around all aspirants in different political parties
and considered Umahi as the most credible who will liberate
Ebonyi State from the current leadership bondage,” the group said.
